Yet the tiny Caribbean island, home to around 14,000 people, is proud to be a British overseas territory. In the 1960s its islanders successfully staged a bloodless rebellion to stop Britain granting them independence as part of St Kitts & Nevis, around 60 miles to the south.
The British overseas territory Anguilla is against Brexit. Residents, who could not vote in the referendum, fear they will be hit hard by trade barriers to neighboring EU territories. Now, the Caribbean island is considering leaving the United Kingdom.
The British Overseas Territories, while largely unknown to the British public, will be affected enormously by Brexit.
Residents of the British territory Anguilla didn't get a say in Brexit, but they will lose their EU passports come March 29 next year. The territory relies heavily on imports that come mostly via the EU.
