The two-year anniversary of Brexit on Jan. 1, 2020, is swiftly approaching. And while the post-Brexit trade regime isn’t exactly new, some businesses are still struggling to navigate the change in import costs and duties that resulted from the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union.

The European Commission report says this is “likely the result of honey produced in other countries and further blended in the UK before it is re-exported to the EU”.

A UK business spoke about having no choice but to raise the prices of its goods as trade between the UK and the EU becomes increasingly difficult, ITV News Reporter Martha Fairlie reports on New Year's Day 2022.

"Brexit has definitely affected us for going to Tahiti (the largest island in French Polynesia) because we're no longer in the European Union," she told AFP.

The new charges are set to come into force at the end of the month and will mean higher food prices will be passed on to consumers, suppliers warn.
